About the department The Department of English Language and Literature of Urmia University was established in 1997 and admitted the first group of students for Bachelor’s degree in TEFL. Currently, the department offers one undergraduate program (BA) and two postgraduate programs (MA and PhD) in TEFL. The department also offers one undergraduate program (BA) and a postgraduate MA program in English Literature. The department also admits foreign students in TEFL for Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral degrees. Presently, the teaching staff of the department consists of eleven faculty members, a retired colleague, Mr. Mohammad Hossein Parvaz, and thirty visiting lecturers. Mr. Hossein Yekkalam, Mr. Yahya Rafizadeh, Dr. Mohammad Nabi Tavallayi are the retired colleagues of the department. Dr. Sara Jalali and Dr. Ebrahim Khodadadi also collaborated with the department for several semesters. Late Dr. Rasoul Khezerlou, specialized in English Literature, was also a respected colleague in the department. In addition to educational activities, Iranian Journal of Language Teaching Research was founded under the editorship of Professor Karim Sadeghi in 2013. The journal publishes research papers, book reviews and interviews three times a year (the first of January, July, and October) on all areas of Applied Linguistics. IJLTR is ranked 'International' by MSRT, and is listed in major international databases like Scopus, ERIC and WoS. IJLTR has a Q1 ranking in Scimago SJR. English Language Student Union was founded in 1999 and has gained many significant achievements in both provincial and national levels. The Union was appointed as the top Union among other unions of Urmia University in 2018. Furthermore, Luna 2, which is published by the student union, was selected as the fourth top student journal in humanities. |
