Examples of Assisted Reproductive Techniques Offered by the Theriogenology and Reproductive Medicine Service at the Department of Theriogenology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Urmia University.

Artificial Insemination: Cooled and frozen semen. Non-surgical and surgical procedures are offered for different species (small ruminants, cattle, horses and dogs).

Laparoscopic Insemination: Depending on the species (dogs, small ruminants, horses), when straws of frozen semen are limited or when only low sperm numbers are available, depositing the semen into the uterus has been shown to increase pregnancy rates.

Semen Collection: Semen collection for routine analyses, fertility work-ups and/or breeding is available for all species.

Semen Freezing: Cryopreservation of stallion and dog semen is available. Freezing semen increases the length of time it can be stored or shipped.

Semen Analysis: State-of-the-art equipment for computer-assisted sperm analysis is available to evaluate the reproductive potential and to diagnose infertility (all species).

Ultrasonography of the reproductive tract: The ultrasound service at the department of Theriogenology has specialized ultrasound equipment for the Fertility evaluation.

Vaginal Cytology: Stages of the animals’ estrous cycle can be defined by sexual behavior, physical signs (vulvar swelling, vaginal bleeding) or by vaginal cytology.

In Vitro Fertilization, and Embryo Transfer: In Vitro Fertilization and Embryo Transfer can be used to overcome infertility caused by numerous conditions including tubal disease, endometriosis and oligospermia.

Molecular analysis of specific genes with fertility and infertility: Examination of transcripts and molecular identification of reproductive genes by PCR and Real-Time PCR
