Midwifery and poultry Department

 The Department of “Theriogenology and Poultry” consist of “Veterinary Obstetrics and Genital diseases: Theriogenology” and “Poultry Health & Diseases” divisions. The Theriogenology division focused on reproductive management in males and females, treatment of genital diseases, management of parturition and dystocia in different animal species. Now, Dr. Esmael Ayen, Dr. Mohsen Eslami and Dr. Ali Soleimanzadeh are the academic staff of the division. Our academic members are committed to providing the best services with sufficient expertise and experience. The provided services in the Theriogenology division are listed below:

• Estrus synchronization of different female’s species and preparation of artificial insemination or breeding.
• Semen collection form the male animals and evaluation the quality of them using different tests such as kinematics by computer-assisted sperm analysis system, sperm membrane integrity, viability and etc.
• Dilution of semen with special extender of belongs to male species and preservation of diluted semen as cold-liquid or frozen status.
• Performing artificial insemination using varying methods in different animal species.
• Diagnosis and treatment of genital diseases in different animal species.
• Pregnancy and/or reproductive pathologies diagnosis using ultrasonography equipped with different probes.
• Counselling reproductive management in different animal herds.
• Assessing the reproductive cycle in the bitch using vaginal cytology technique.
• Management of parturition and dystocia in different female species.

The division of Poultry Health & Diseases of Urmia University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, by having expert faculty members and using up-to-date techniques, tries to increase people's awareness in the industrial and traditional sectors in order to prevent poultry diseases and minimize the spread of infectious diseases in bird populations and increasing the quality of the final product to not only help preserve the health of birds and the capital in this industry, but also be effective in improving the health of society.

The members of division of Poultry Health and Diseases (Dr. Manochehr Allymehr and Dr. Mohammad-Hossein Alavi), with their experience and expertise, are committed to providing the best services in the fields of consulting for breeding, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of bird diseases, which use the following capabilities and facilities to achieve these goals.

The poultry division includes a bird dissection hall, a laboratory and bird breeding rooms, which is ready to provide the following services according to the available facilities:

• Giving advice on health issues, disease prevention, biosecurity and nutrition
• tests to diagnose parasitic, bacterial and viral diseases
• serological tests in order to diagnose and monitor some diseases at the level of breeding farms and local poultry (ELISA, SPAT, HI)
• Dissection of birds to diagnose possible diseases
• Trouble shooting
