Statement by Urmia University on the illegal aggression of the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran
On behalf of Urmia University, we strongly condemn pre-emptive military actions by the Zionist regime and the US against the Islamic Republic of Iran, as these acts are in direct violation of international law and the United Nations Charter. Such aggression undermines regional and global stability and violates the principles of sovereignty and non-intervention. Iran has consistently pursued diplomatic avenues to resolve the nuclear issue, including its full cooperation with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and within the framework of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). However, it was the United States that unilaterally withdrew from the nuclear agreement and failed to uphold its commitments, thereby sabotaging diplomatic progress. In the face of these setbacks, Iran has repeatedly sought peaceful solutions, yet has been met with continued hostility.
We also denounce the repeated attacks by the Zionist regime on Iran’s infrastructure, which lack any legal or moral justification and represent a blatant breach of international norms and Iranian sovereignty. These actions not only endanger regional stability but also threaten to escalate conflict unnecessarily. We also note the Tulsi Gabbard’s congressional testimony as the Chief of U.S. Intelligence that Iran is not seeking nuclear weapons, further discrediting any justification for aggression. Under such circumstances, Iran is left with no option but to defend its sovereignty and the nation by all legitimate means.
Urmia University calls on the international community especially academics to condemn unlawful acts of force and aggression towards Iran and to support the principles of justice, and respect for national sovereignty.
