Departement of Agricultural Extension and Education
The Department of Agricultural Education and Extension launched its B.Sc. program at Shahid Bakeri Higher Education Center of Miandoab, affiliated to Urmia University in 2006. Agricultural extension is the practices through the education of farmers. The field of 'Extension' now encompasses a wider range of communication and learning activities organized for rural people by educators from different disciplines, including agriculture, agricultural marketing, health, and business studies. The emphasis of the program is on Rural Sociology, Extension Education, Cultural and Rural Development.
Moreover, our department has focused on plant protection field. Research in plant protection involves investigations of diseases (Fungi, Bacteria, Viruses...), pests and weeds that threaten our food supply and green spaces by reducing crop productivity and the aesthetic qualities of ornamental plants. Ongoing research efforts to develop disease-resistant plant varieties, to study insect pest behavior, and to understand the emergence of herbicide-resistant weeds have contributed greatly to the protection of our crop and ornamental production systems from potentially devastating epidemics and infestations. Graduates of this major can participate in Plant Pathology, Entomology, Weed science and Agricultural Education and Extension fields in master programs. Our department has 3 laboratories (Plant Pathology, Insectology and Soil Labs) with four assistant professors and one laboratory technician.
