Visa and Consular Affairs

Consular Affairs aims to facilitate the implementation of foreign students' affairs (such as Educational/Student Visa, Residency Permit, Extension of Residency, etc) through contact with the International Students Organization of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology. In order to coordinate and comply with consular rules, knowledge of relevant principles and rules is essential for all non-Iranian students and they are expected to be aware of the relevant laws and act accordingly. 

 

A. Educational Visa

Students wishing to study at Urmia University are required to enter the country with an Educational visa (E Visa). For this purpose, applicants who have been accepted to the University of Urmia are required to submit the following documents to the Consular Office of International Relations Office of Urmia University.

It is imperative that students pay attention to the expiry date of their passport and to replace it six months before the expiry date.Upon the issuance of the Visa Grant Form, the applicant will be notified by email to visit the Iranian Embassy or Consulate in the country concerned to collect their student E visa within the deadline set out in the said Form.

 

Required documents to obtain an E-type entry visa for the student:

Color scan of personal photo (Size: 400*600 less than 50 kb, white background, jpg/jpeg format)

Color scan of passport (Size: 600*800 less than 100 kb)

Filling out the Visa application word file according to the passport information ( English column is mandatory/ Persian column is optional )

Emailing the documents to: visaurmia@gmail.com

Communicating with the university visa officer to follow up the visa issuance process via email

Collecting the study visa from the consulates of Iran in the student's home country

 

Required documents to obtain a Visa for student's Spouse or Children:

 

  1. Three 3 x 4 pictures of the person for whom you want to get the visa
  2. Three copies of the student’s information page and residency permit
  3. Copies of your marriage documents, verified by an Iranian embassy/consulate in your country.
  4. A copy of the invitee’s passport’s information page
  5. A copy of the completed visa application form
  6. 1,000,000 IRR. in cash for the issuance of a one-year permit for a student’s spouse or children

 

Note 1: Please note the deadline for applying for a student visa as of the date listed on the Visa Grant Sheet.

Note 2: Passports valid for less than 6 months will not be processed. 

Note 3: Make sure to include the student’s email address and WhatsApp number accurately because student visa is sent to these addresses.

Note 4: Immediately after receiving a student visa, students need to refer to the consular post (Iranian embassy or consulate in the respective country) as stated in the visa file and receive the original of their sealed visa and visit the university. 

Note 3: After arriving in Iran on a student visa, please note the one-month deadline for applying for residency.

Note 4: If you do not apply for a residency within the above-mentioned timeframe, apply for a student visa extension.

 

B. Issuance of Educational Residency 

Students who have entered Iran with a study visa must apply for residency permit after finalizing their registrationan at Urmia University. For this purpose, international students are required to submit the following documents to the Consular Office of International Relations Office of Urmia University and refrain from leaving the country during the process of issuing residency permit.It is noteworthy that the residence is issued for one year.

Required documents to obtain a One-year Edcutional Residency Permit:

 
  • Visiting the Consular Office of the university in person with the following documents after collecting the study visa from the consulates of Iran in the student's home country
  • Original passport
  • Four 3 x 4 pictures
  • Three copies of your passport’s information page
  • Two copies of your E-type entry visa
  • Completed Application Form for Residence.
  • 200,000 IRR in cash for the issuance of a one-year permit
 

Note 1: The residency permit should be collected in person from the Consular Office of the university after approximately one month.

Note 2: The residency permit applicant is not allowed to leave the country after visiting the university and completing the application for a residency permit until receiving a one-year permit.

Note 3: The application procedure for obtaining a residency permit usually lasts two weeks to one month. 

 

C. Issuance of Residency Extension

After leaving the country, students must first go to the Consular Office of International Relations before leaving Iran and have a letter of request for their departure permit issued by the Provincial Passport Office. Withdrawals are usually issued with a three-month validity and students must re-issue before the deadline expires.
