Gold medal at TEKNOFEST Türkiye 2024 Festival for Dr. Mehrdad Shahbaz

Dr. Mehrdad Shahbaz, associate professor of Urmia University in the Department of Materials Engineering, won a gold medal at TEKNOFEST Türkiye 2024 Inventions Festival.

TEKNOFEST is Türkiye’s first and only aerospace and technology festival organized with the partnership of many organizations that play a critical part in the development of national technology in Türkiye. This year’s festival was held from Wed, Oct 2, 2024, to Sun, Oct 6, 2024, under the management of T3 Foundation and the Ministry of Industry and Technology of Turkey, in the city of Adana, Turkey, with the participation of 128 institutions, including government institutions, technology companies, universities, and media organizations.

Dr. Shahbaz’s novel project was a dental bio-implant for bone reconstruction, eliminating the need for surgery, and won the gold medal of this festival. According to Dr. Shahbaz, this project will go through the administrative process in Türkiye to obtain a patent. Dr. Shahbaz’s second design, on a method for the production of bulk metallic nanostructure materials, also received a silver medal and was presented to a Turkish business delegation, a representative of Siemens company, and a representative of WIPO for commercialization.
