The department of water engineering is one of the oldest departments in Urmia University. It is one of the main departments of Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resource. The department of water engineering has great importance in developing the cycle of agricultural and industrial development in West Azerbaijan that reflects the effects of the irrigation and water resources as well as hydraulic structures engineering in all plans of the development. Department plays main rule in restoration project of Urmia Lake.
